IATA Student Leave of Absence Request

This request is for a long term leave more than one week in length.

An approved leave of absence (LOA) is not considered a withdrawal and is only utilized for approved military or medical circumstances. A LOA may be considered for extenuating circumstances on a case-by-case basis. The Director may approve an LOA per IATA policy.

A student on LOA will not incur any additional fees or charges during the term of the LOA.

An approved leave of absence (LOA) is not considered a withdrawal and is only utilized for approved military or medical circumstances. A LOA may be considered for extenuating circumstances on a case-by-case basis. The Director may approve an LOA per IATA policy. A student on LOA will not incur any additional fees or charges from IATA during the term of the LOA. However, it is not a guarantee that the LOA time requested will be approved by your lender.

Tuition loans have “loan periods”. Sometimes with enough notice the time period can be adjusted, but not always. We will do our best to assist you with the process, but in some cases the lender may have their own criteria to determine if a student can be granted an LOA or is withdrawn. Speak to your loan provider and student services to determine how to best navigate your particular situation.

It is a requirement that IATA inform your loan provider of your LOA. Applying for an LOA may have significant implications on your student loan status and repayment schedule. The terms of the loan are dependent on the lender’s specific policies. Some lenders may start the repayment grace period immediately or it may remain in deferment.

Determining factors may include the length of the LOA, academic performance and attendance performance. In all cases schedule a meeting with student services. We will communicate with your lender; however, it is your responsibility to stay informed of your financial obligation to the school and your lender and plan accordingly.

Important facts:

An LOA cannot exceed one-hundred and eighty (180) calendar days in length in any (12) month period.

Your original tuition amount will be honored. If you owe hours and/or academics, you will be required to make these up when you return.

If the student does not resume attendance at the institution at or before the end of a leave of absence, the student will be withdrawn. Any balance owed on a promissory note through IATA is due in full immediately.

If the student owes hours and academics, these incomplete subjects will turn into failed grades, and these subjects will need to be repeated. The student will be required to pay the prevailing tuition rate when he/she returns to school.

To request an LOA:

Students must interview with the Director. Requests for LOA should be made in advance, in writing, and must be signed by the student with appropriate justification.

For an LOA for military reasons such as unit deployment or reserve obligations a copy of the students’ orders is required.

International AeroTech Academy does not guarantee the LOA time requested will be honored by the tuition loan source. Factors such as the loan period, attendance requirements, the length of LOA requested or additional terms and criteria with the loan agreement may affect this decision.
